Desert landscapes
I haven’t posted in a while but thought I would share my collection of desert landscapes taken on my recent stint in the west coast of the U.S. of A.
Taken with my 7D and either an EF f/2.8 L 24-70mm or an EFS f/3.5 10-22mm. Also, 16:9 is the new 3:2.

I am excited.
Went to an old mates house last night for dinner, drinks, music and a good catch up. It was so cool to hang out again, as we haven’t really done it properly since starting uni.
We all used to play music together, and so decided to have a jam, which went really well. We started with a couple of soul / Motown numbers and went from there, it was so good to...

Newton: After Effects Physics Engine
“Newton interprets each 2D layer as a rigid object in a real environment. Once the simulation is calculated, the corresponding animation is recreated in After Effects as keyframes.”
This is going to improve the world of motion graphics tenfold. I may even purchase it.

Yosemite
So unfortunately my iMac died (again… after I had edited 150+ photos). However, I managed to salvage a few from Yosemite National Park in California.
Oh and I climbed a mountain on this day. Just saying.

Desert Music Bad Boys in Malaysia: Part II
I feel I should give these more of an introduction. Last year Nick and I spent some years of our life (3 weeks) soul searching in Singapore and Malaysia. In our jungle fever / chinese food madness, Nick decided to buy a £1k video camera from Kuala Lumpur, from a young man named Brian at the Sony store. In retrospect, we could have got some discount as he was outrageously flirtatious towards us. He...

Get back in the TV, Los Angeles. You don’t belong in real life.
Stop wearing those sunglasses, dogs. You’re a dog.
What a crazy place, the moment I walked out of LAX I was in a scene from Lost. You know the one where Professor Artz almost gets run over and comically says “I’m walkin’ heeeere” like Dustin Hoffman. I know you remember. I have seen Hollywood,...
A sad day
See that little grey blob in the middle? That’s the dying breath of my £1500 top spec 24” iMac.
Cheers, Universe.

My very first photo credits →
So, I recently found out ExploreIslandsNow.com have used a photo I took in the Perhentian Islands, Malaysia (read about Nick and I’s couples retreat). I got a nice photo credit and everything. Hit the jump to see it.

I’ve been working on this special project at They.Create for a few weeks now. It’s like nothing I’ve done before and the lack of live text and need for 100% of a users’ CPU makes me twitch a bit, but I’ve learned a lot and am looking forward to the next phase.
The environment includes a random day/night/weather cycle integrating...

Radiohead: The King of Limbs →
Radiohead have just announced they are releasing their new album, The King of Limbs, in 5 days, with no previous publicity or any word of it.
Thank you Radiohead for this Valentine’s surprise. Some might say I’m climbing up the walls in excitement. Pun!

One fantastic fox →
A fox has recently managed to pull the trigger on a hunters rifle with his paw, shooting the hunter instead.
Hang on:

A brief encounter with my hero
Me: Hi Ben, so when are you coming to the UK? We're all waiting.
Ben Kenney (Incubus): Don't know. I hope soon.
Me: What camera do you have?
Ben Kenney (Incubus): I have a Canon 5DII. That and my cameraphone and I'm in business!
Me: You are so dreamy.
True story. (not the last bit).
Compositing is painful. It’s technical, it’s hard, it’s time consuming, it gives you repetitive strain injury and inevitable arthritis, it makes your eyes bleed, it has a deadline of yesterday, you start seeing in blocky pixels after working in quarter resolution, it takes hours to render a 10 second sequence…
But I bloody love waking up to the sound of After...

V&A Fashion in Motion
Last friday I went up to the V&A to do some live webcasting of one of their acclaimed free fashion shows. This was to be shown on They.Create’s own V&A channel live player, aka “channel-slash-live”. It was a single-camera set up but we have some plans for the near future to get multiple feeds and some better live vision mixing solutions. This was decided after cock-up...

Perhentian islands
The tragedy regarding the repossession of our wallets and my beloved folding Rayban wayfarers, that were always a talking point in any social situation (they folded in half… I know!), had left us with our tails between our legs. We were no longer men of Asia, merely western schoolboys with our shorts pulled down, spanked by reality.
That said, we continued on with our quest to the Perhentian...
Cameron Highlands, Penang and the feeling of our...
Hello.
Nick and I are in Penang now after a short stop in the Cameron highlands. The Cameron highlands can only be described as a set straight from lord of the rings. Acres of lush green tea plantations climbing the mountains 3km above sea level. Asides from that, strawberry farms and tearooms selling tea and scones. Weird.
After some unanticipated jungle trekking in our chinos and plimsols,...
Kuala Lumpur
Currently Nick and I are delirious from only having 3-4 hours sleep a night for the past 4 days. We laughed for roughly 10 minutes because I made a silly face, it’s that bad. We are happy though.
Kuala Lumpur has been interesting. It’s commercial and dirty and there is little to do or see within the city besides rats and the occasional cat that could in fact just be a massive rat....
Singapore, pt 1
Well both Nick and I didn’t get round to blogging yesterday as we were rushing around Singapore like giddy schoolgirls. The day started with rain and lots of it, although it kindly stopped just after we bought umbrellas, which meant lugging them around for the rest of the day in the blazing sun.
We decided to be authentic tourists and go on a bus tour around the city. It really was a fast tracked...

I can blog too.
This is mainly a place I can post links, photos and general thoughts of various things I’m interested in but feel too inappropriate to post on facebook in fear of people thinking I’m pretentious, weird, geeky, or just annoyed my posts are blocking their current feed from seeing updates in gossip. I don’t blame them. These people annoy me too.
I am also going to Singapore and...
